 The Flag

The law "On the State Flag of the Republic of Armenia" was adopted on August 24, 1990. Following the constitutional reform of November 27, 2005, a new law on the National Flag of the Republic of Armenia was adopted on June 15, 2006.The State Flag is a rectangular panel with three equal horizontal stripes of red, blue and orange (from top to bottom).The flag is identical in size and colours to the state flag of the First Armenian Republic (1918-1920). The colour red symbolizes the blood shed by the Armenian people in its struggle for the independence, the colour blue symbolizes the clear sky of Armenia and the colour orange symbolizes the creative drive of the nation.

 

The Coat of Arms

The law "On the State Coat of Arms of the Republic of  Armenia" was   adopted  on April 19, 1992.

 It is a rendition of the Coat of Arms of the First Armenian Republic (1918-1920) designed by architect Alexander Tamanian and artist Hakob Kojoyan. The coat of arms of the Republic of Armenia depicts, in the center on a shield, Mount Ararat with Noah's ark and the coats of arms of the four kingdoms of historical Armenia. The shield is supported by a lion and an eagle, and a sword, a branch, a sheaf, a chain and a ribbon are portrayed under the shield.

 

 

The Anthem

"Mer Hayrenik" ("Our Fatherland") | play

The Anthem of the Republic of Armenia was adopted on July 1, 1991, by the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Armenia. It is based on the Anthem of the First Armenian Republic (1918-1920). The author of the lyrics is poet Mikael Nalbandian (1829-1866) and the melody is by Barsegh Kanachyan (1885-1967).
